Formatting and using of 720/820 kByte disks in AT 5¼"-1.2 MByte Drives using cheap double-density (DD) disks. This saves you a lot of money, you would need for a new BIOS-Version. Supporting 3½"-1.44 MB drives with any BIOS-Versions in ATs and Clones. OS note: FDF disks are readable under Win9x the TSR is not required. This older utility, similar to 2M, has better 3rd party support and remains very popular. The Standard Floppy Disk Controller (the culprit) MUST have a red X over its icon to allow 2M to work.įDFORMAT Format floppies to higher capacities. (Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Floppy Disk Controllers > Standard Floppy Disk Controller). Turn off Windows' 32-bit floppy-drive access this will allow 2M to work flawlessly!.However, one reader informed me of a simple solution (which I haven't tried myself) to the 'Win9x problem:' Accessing a 2M disk under Win9x may actually corrupt the 2M disk. OS issues: 2M is fully supported under DOS, Win3.x and Linux, but not Win9x or OS/2.In my experience, the default value (1.7MB) produces disks that are as reliable as a 1.44. HD disks formatted to 2M's maximum capacity (1.8MB) seem to be more prone to corruption.

2M works fine under Windows 3.1 (I've been using it for 2 years) but some floppy file operations may run slower.

These warnings can be prevented if the 2mdos TSR is installed using autoexec.bat.
